Frequently Asked Questions
Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) Diesel Conversions

  • » Can I convert a gasoline engine to waste vegetable oil / straight vegetable oil?
No. Only diesels can burn veggie oil.
  • » How will veggie oil effect my fuel mileage?
It should remain nearly the same as with diesel fuel.
  • » Will veggie oil effect the engine horsepower?
Again, it should remain nearly the same as with diesel fuel.
  • » Will my engine be harmed?
Very unlikely. Many, many conversions have been done by owners and installers alike with no reported harm.
  • » How does the system work?
A second tank is normally added to the vehicle. This second tank can either hold vegetable oil or can be the new diesel tank if you main-tank the veg oil. A toggle switch and some solenoids allow you to change from one fuel to the other during warm-up and shut-down. In this system, the fuel filter assembly and the fuel lines are heated to reduce the viscosity of the oil.
  • » Can I convert my own vehicle?
If you have some mechanical skills and a basic selection of power and hand tools, you may want to consider doing the conversion yourself. See our kits.
  • » Where do I get the waste vegetable oil?
Local restaurants often must pay to have their waste oil hauled away, so you should normally be able to obtain part of their oil at no charge if you approach the owner/manager in a friendly manner. Even businesses who receive payment for their waste oil are usually compensated so little that they will often allow you take a reasonable amount of oil. Most people are very interested to hear (probably for the first time) about the entire concept and will allow you to pump out what you need.
